New car?

Postby RexTalon on Sun Jul 11, 2010 2:19 pm

So, I've been driving my '01 Jeep Grand Cherokee for a long time. I like my jeep, but it's time for something new.

My jeep has been good to me.
My jeep lets me sit above half the traffic, allowing me to see problems before they become problems.
My jeep has cargo capacity for when I want to take a road trip with JBB and want to pack all my minis.
My jeep is really comfortable on long trips and I can even sleep in it.
My jeep is one of my favorite colors, dark blue.
I like the overall look of a jeep.
It's rugged enough to take running into a few trees, jumping curbs, and being airborne, all without calling it quits.

My jeep sucks on gas mileage.
I want to drive something that has all the things that I've come to love about it, without feeling guilty at the pump. The thing is, if I drive something that's better on gas, I have to give up something else. I really don't want to give up what I have but I want to get significantly more than 18MPG.

There are vehicles that I like the look of but they also get shitty gas mileage. The Jeep Wrangler is super awesome looking but sucks on gas. There are Jeep models that are slightly better on gas but not as good looking. I like the look of the Chevy Avalanche, but it also sucks gas. Is there a car that looks like it means business, but doesn't slurp gas?

TL;DR: Want a new vehicle, recommendations?

America knows how to make a damned good truck/ SUV'
America does NOT know how to make a conservative engine.
IDK what your idea of "buisness" is, but there is that FJ cruiser. looks liek it belongs on a trail.
The previous year VW Touareg had a V-8 in it. The current V-6 is still 14/20 city/ hiway.
Basically, if you want better than 20mpg hiway, you'd need to move into the SUV/ Crossover area. Yaknow. AWD cars and so forth.

Thanks man. :skull:

JBB, I can see the Toyota being something I'd drive, but it too gets fairly shitty mileage. I guess I'm going to have to go back to driving a tiny gutless Honda if I really want to save on gas. :(

Do what the cool kids are doing.
get a Volkswagen...
Ya know ya wanna....
GTI FTW baby. Just make sure to get an '09 or better. Previous Gen Engine has horror stories about the camshaft follower for the fuel pump. Was corrected in later cars. I deal with mine by checking it ofren. AKA maintenance vs people who just expect it to be okay...

Isn't it? Soooo jeeeepy, uuuugggghhhhh.
I don't know if I could take that much Jeepiness.
What sucks is it's the same V6 I have now, so no fuel savings. Otherwise, I'd be down like 4 flat tires.

The only fuel efficient Jeep is the Patriot, which is just a minivan with a slightly hipper rap. :(

We had a Subaru Forester for years and loved it. Got about 22 mpg, not great but better. It's a good car for poor conditions, but it is on a car chassis, not a truck chassis, so it can't take the pounding. But it's reliable as hell, lasts forever, and has plenty of room. Overall, a great car. Just not super-manly.
