I'm still relatively familiar with the gaming scene in the East Bay Area as well as the one here locally. Back in the East Bay 4th Edition took off for a while, but Pathfinder has steadily grown to the point where it's either surpassed or is close to surpassing the popularity of 4th. Here 4th Edition never fully took off, and while there are still some groups playing it, it's been Pathfinder that has taken over from 3.5 and 4th never really became more than a 2nd tier game, although it still sells well enough to get prominent placement in the FLGS.

Never played it. Prohet has though, I believe.

The Pathfinder/Gamemastery line of products is HUGE. However only a handfull of products are Pthfinder specific most of the stuff was produced under the OGL for 3.5 but system wise it all works fine. I ran some of the older 3.5 oriented adventure path modules using the Pathfinder book and the 3.5 Monster Manuel (this was before the PF Bestiary was released) and really any adjustments can be made on the fly it all meshes that well. There is alot of stuff. And again the quality is lavish.

4th edition was a fizzle in this area, but pathfinder has taken off like a rocket. For a fun time let the players use pathfinder and run them through 3.0 and 3.5 modules. We did this for about two months and every dungeon was a lesson in how awesome the Pathfinder characters were.

+1 to what JBB said. Prophet has been VERY happy with it.

I can't believe how expanded the classes are. And even the bestiary is great while it is a lot smaller than the mm. Shame we ain't playing it yet. Now we are playing in a fantasy town based on the town we use to live in. Also great fun:)
