feeling the crunch

Postby kkoene on Sat Jul 17, 2004 10:36 am

Ok, I am really feeling the crunch now! I have 3 minis to go and all have to be done by the end of July! I finally got the leader of my fantasy squad in the mail and I have her based and primed. I also have my Monique entry based and primed and I have a private commission piece based and primed with the skin done. I hope I can get the 2 for the contest done in time! Thanks for the heads up on the deadline Padre.....nothing like a little added pressure!

ARG! Not. Enough. Time!
Our project just went into mandatory OT - fifty hours at least, with a cap of sixty (and I need the money enough that I'm willing to work sixty, what with a wedding coming up in just over two months).

I have my entry for the beginners category done and photo'd, all I need to do is sling the picture over... but I haven't even primed the Monique figure yet (but I have gotten it flashed)!
This is going to suck.
I'm dead too!

I will almost certainly accept entries that are a couple days late; as long as it's the first week in August, it'll be fine. The main point is to have fun and show off our stuff to each other!

fucking cameras, I have no idea how to use them! and no goddamn time!

tried to follow cento's tips but my god, I can't get sharp pics! I'll blame it on having no good bulbs and no tripod. :)

The Tripod is the big one. With good enough lighting, you might get away with no tripod, but by good enough, I mean multiple 100 watt daylight bulbs placed within a foot or so of the mini. :P

It really is next to impossible to get good pics without a tripod.

BUT, here is a work around to try:

Since the key is getting the camera still when the photo is taken, you might be able to place it on a stack of books or magazines, and maybe even give the stack a slight down angle. If you are using a camera with a swivel in the body like some of the Nikon Coolpix models, this is even easier. It is tough to stack things to get the right height and angle, but it can be done. It's just very annoying...

Well, I have my fantasy single done. My sf single is finally coming along again and nearing completion. I figure for sf unit I can finish off the remaining three members of a five man squad that are nearly done. Fantasy unit will be harder for me to pull off. I might be able to, but I find it unlikely.

The reaper mini will be the tough one. I haven't started yet. If I can get one full day to paint, I should be golden on it, but life has been very chaotic. Last night was the first time this month I have done any painting. But I pan on doing my best to make the cut-off! :)

oi.
Too many projects at once.

I've been like, mad-hobby-ninja-girl lately.

A week will hopefully do it... assuming I can get Cento to stop shaking his paints while sitting on the couch next to me so I stop making squiggles! :x

I used to get fairly good pics without a tripod by placing the camera on the same surface as the mini (generally a table), and holding a small lamp in the other hand as I pressed the trigger.

cento: remeber you can enter minis that you painted in the past...maybe some of your skellies for the fantasy unit?

...I made a loose, humorous squig rendition in oil pastels today, just because I want to enter ever category. I hope chrono and seer and LordBrutalis enter drawings.

...and I'm trying to piece together a mostly scratch-built doom diver for the vehicle/war machin category, but I don't have a crew. Hmmm...

lol! Australians are ok but no New Zealanders. Just kidding.

YES Zordana you can enter the contest...but hopefully you'll keep posting and will have more than one post eventually.

Please only enter the beginner category if you don't consider yourself to be competitive in the best categories.

I didn't know this forum existed til yesterday.
Can I send someone a picture or two and have them tell me whether or not I should be entering the beginner one? I really have no idea.

If you've never entered a competition before, and you consider yourself a beginner, then you can enter the beginner category. Easy as that.

Of course, if you paint like Bobby Wong, then entering the beginner category might be a bit.... well, facetious.

I don't know how bobby wong paints.

I've never entered any competitions before and do regard myself a beginner of sorts.
How about I enter one and if someone thinks it doesnt belong in beginner it can be moved? I dont want to be seen as facetious. *sniff*

I just seriously have no idea. My camera sucks so the shots are probably gonna look like a lump of melted cheese anyway. ;)
